People in Westville enjoyed a free community lunch at the Salvation Army hall this week that saw roughly 100 guests enjoy meatloaf with gravy.

The community luncheon was open to anyone who wanted to mingle over a hot meals and guests could also enter draws to win prizes, including some Night in Canada caps.

doing a service and actually it brings people out to socialize, to join in, to meet other people, just to have a good day, said volunteer Virginia Vacheresse.

She and her fellow volunteers help out the Salvation Army locally and in return the organization gives them use of the kitchen and are one of the sponsors and suppliers of the luncheon.

Vacheresse added that local businesses have also lent support to the monthly luncheons.

Volunteers work on the event from food purchases all the way to washing up, including a greeter and counter who can track the number of guests and meals needed.
