GREENVILLE, Pitt County UPDATE: Officials have charged Dibon Toone with the murders of Garlette Howard’s three daughters, in addition to the murder of Howard. He was served with the three additional counts of murder Wednesday afternoon.
Dibon Toone, 39, made his first appearance in court in the state of North Carolina, Monday morning. Toone appeared in front of a judge in Pitt County to face one murder charge.
Toone is charged with killing his girlfriend Garlette Howard.
He is currently in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond. His next court date will be September 7th.
According to Greenville officials, Garlette Howard,
32, was killed by her boyfriend, Toone. Howard’s three girls, ages 6, 7 and 11, were also murdered. Police said Toone is the father of the two youngest victims.
In a press release from Greenville Public Information Officer Kristen Hunter, it stated “we can now confirm that the Medical Examiner’s Office has determined all four victims died from ‘traumatic head injury by assault.’ The report will indicate that the weapon believed to have been used in the assaults was a hammer.”
The victims were found inside their Greenville home Tuesday night around 8. Police had been at the home to do a welfare check after concerned family members called them when the mom and kids could not be reached.
Toone appeared in Richmond court on Thursday for his extradition hearing. He waived extradition and was brought back to Greenville by police officers Friday evening.
