He had been treated in recent years for cancer, pneumonia and other ailments. His wife, Ruth, died in 2007. Graham reached more than 200 million through his appearances and millions more through his pioneering use of television and radio.
Unlike many traditional evangelists, he abandoned narrow fundamentalism to engage broader society. presidents from Dwight Eisenhower to George W. Bush earned him the nickname “America’s Pastor.” In 1995 his Evangelistic Association designated his son William Franklin Graham III as the ministry’s leader.
Many local residents and pastors are reacting to Graham’s passing.
Billy Graham preached a simple message of hope that changed the world. He was known as the pastor to Presidents and America’s pastor. However,
I see him as the greatest evangelist of the 20th century. I think of him every time I hear the song “Just as I am” and it reminds me that the Love of Jesus is for all.

In a complex world, Dr. Billy Graham proclaimed the Gospel with compellingsimplicity and love. With humility and gratitude we give thanks to God for his life and for the light of Christ he shared withthe world.
Rev. Dr. Matthew Rich,Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church
Billy Graham was the greatest preacher of the last century and preached personally to more people anyone in history. The faith and hope he proclaimed is now sight for him in heaven. Yet beyond the popularity, prestige and photos with presidents often associated with him, Dr. Graham was about the message he preached. Billy Graham never apologized for preaching Jesus and he never compromised in preaching the bible. I am deeply grateful for the clarity of his voice in proclaiming Christ crucified and for the urgency of the message he proclaimed calling people every where to repent from sin and self and look to Christ and HIs cross. Dr. Graham leaves an enduring legacy of integrity and influence that has touched my own life an ministry. His life and faith calls all who declare the gospel to be shaped by the gospel and be faithful to the end. This was true of Billy Graham and, I pray,
I may be counted as one found faithful.
