Protect our way of life, continue the training and background checks for concealed carry
I agree 1,000 percent with a recent Voice of the People by Tim Nosbush on the need for training and background checks for obtaining concealed carry permits.
As a card carrying member of the NRA for many years and the owner of a concealed carry permit for much longer, I strongly support him, Hopkinsville police Chief Clayton Sumner and Christian County Sheriff Livy Leavell. I stand with them and other law enforcement officers in their fight against Senate Bill 7.
We already have a right to open carry weapons on the books. The concealed carry permits allow you to be trained in the proper use and safety of a weapon. The carry permits gives you the advantage of unexpected protection from a person trying to do you harm. With the element of surprise, it also may save yours and someone else’s life in a bad situation from someone trying to do you harm.
If you agree, show your support for training and background checks for the concealed carry permit by writing or calling your state representatives. Contact them and voice your opinion.
I have three sons and nine grandchildren. As the boys and now my grandchildren grow up, they all have learned or will be taught at an early age about gun safety and the difference in a toy gun and the real thing. As they get older, they are taught gun safety and how to properly shoot not only long guns but also pistols. As my boys grew up loving to hunt, we went to hunter safety classes and got their permits when they were old enough. You teach a child gun safety and how to hunt, they can always protect themselves and never go hungry. We eat what we harvest.
